Salt Therapy for Croup - Natural relief from your child's barking Croup cough.
What is Croup and why does the cough sound like a barking Seal?
Croup is a condition caused by a parainfluenza virus, that involves inflammation and swelling of the larynx (voice box), trachea (windpipe) and bronchi (the large airways in the lungs). This inflammation of the air passages can cause your child to have a barking cough, a hoarse voice, and noisy or laboured breathing.
Why are children susceptible to Croup?
The inflamed airways become swollen and partially blocked with mucus, causing a partial collapse of the airway when your child breathes in (rather like a bent straw).
Young children, whose windpipes are small and soft, are the most susceptible. Croup is not as common in older children because, as a child grows up, the size and strength of the windpipe increases.
According to the Children's Health Queensland, Croup is common in children—one in every 50 to 100 children will get croup in their first year of life. Croup usually affects children between the ages of six months and five years and is more common in winter.
Croup is usually caused by a viral infection that causes inflammation of the airways (including the larynx, trachea and bronchi). The majority of cases of croup are caused by a parainfluenza virus.
What is Dry Salt Therapy?
Salt naturally has antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.
Salt Therapy has used for for thousands of years to improve our immune system, allergies, alleviate skin conditions, and breathing.
Halotherapy or Salt Therapy in a dry environment, like our Salt Room, is perfect for the treatment of Croup. Children can play in the salt while they breathe in the salty air from the Halogenerator (it grinds therapeutic grade salt into tiny particles and pumps it into the room in a constantly measured quantity). A standard session is one hour which is worth 4 days at the beach for the absorption of salt and negative ions. Relaxing while also being good for your immunity and sense of wellbeing.
